In two pressurized water reactors (PWRs), the chemical laboratory hood exhaust and the annulus exhaust have been found to account for most of the radiologically critical elemental 131I released to the environment during normal operation. Passing these exhausts through iodine filters would constitute a considerable improvement of the iodine filtraion concept of PWRs.
