Ice cubes, which were made using a base-borate solution containing 1 wt% Na₂S₂O₃, were found to be ∼100 efficient in removing I₂ from an I₂-air stream, but neither additive was found to be effective for trapping CH₃I if the water was in the form of ice cubes.
