The evolution of analytical methods for predicting the mechanical work energy for LMFBR maximum accidents is reviewed. The analytical methods based on the thermal interaction of molten fuel with sodium are discussed in detail and comparisons of mechanical work energies, pressure -time histories, and temperature -time histories are made. Areas for further work are suggested.
