The preparation and properties of LiPb are described, and its use suggested for neutron shields, collimators, filters, and antiscatter grids where gamma contamination must be kept at a minimum. The material is relatively inexpensive, easily handled and fabricated, and stable in air at temperatures over 200°C and in neutron fluxes of the order of 1012 n/(cm2 sec).
