The response of the Hidrodensimeter (HDM) nuclear density gauge for measuring road surface density is investigated by the Monte Carlo (stochastic) method. Special attention is paid to the effect of the chemical composition of the medium measured. Techniques applicable to this problem are described by which the Monte Carlo calculations can be used to better effect. Results of these calculations are compared to experimental results.
