Fabrication methods have been developed to produce cells, sheaths, and stirrers of monolithic, impervious, high purity Al₂O₃ and MgO ceramics to satisfy the rigorous requirements for the electrorefining or electrowinning of Pu. Plutonium metal produced utilizing these components is currently used by the National Bureau of Standards as a certified analytical standard.
