An In-Core Radiation Detector for Monitoring Pulsed Reactor Excursions

An in-core radiation detector was developed to measure intense radiation levels present in pulsing reactor cores. Test results are shown for TRIGA and Pulstar excursions with peak power levels of 150 and 1000 MW, respectively. Life data indicate no deterioration in detector characteristics after >800 TRIGA pulses.
