A relation between the use of dished pellets and the observation of ridging of clad fuel elements is proposed* An experiment performed on cold, aluminum pellet-shaped pieces is described. This experiment illustrates the idea that dishing may be one of the causes of ridging, and suggests a pellet shape which is expected to reduce this deformation.
