A Japan-U.S. cooperation agreement for the technical research and development on the Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) has been in effect since 1984. Japanese activities and their results based on this agreement are outlined. The following are some uses of information gained from the TMI-2 recovery program:

  1. electrical circuit characterization and diagnostic system
  2. machines for cutting reactor internals
  3. submerged demineralizer system/EPICOR-II system
  4. mechanical decontamination techniques
  5. safety evaluation of light water reactors in Japan.
For each of the above, the evaluated results are presented, showing application of TMI-2 information to normal operation, decommissioning, and safety evaluation of nuclear power plants.
