Materials for Control of Water Cooled Power Reactors

The control rod requirements of water cooled power reactors have been satisfied thus far with the successful operation of control rod systems containing B₄C in tubes, Ag-In-Cd alloy, hafnium, or Eu₂O₃ dispersed in stainless steel. Additional auxiliary control is being obtained through the use of burnable poison materials such as boron, erbium, and gadolinium.
