The control rod requirements of water cooled power reactors have been satisfied thus far with the successful operation of control rod systems containing B4C in tubes, Ag-In-Cd alloy, hafnium, or Eu2O3 dispersed in stainless steel. Additional auxiliary control is being obtained through the use of burnable poison materials such as boron, erbium, and gadolinium.
