Recent solutions to inverse problems are reviewed for the estimation of optical properties or the thickness of a medium, or the presence of a spatially distributed source or an obscured object. Time-independent and time-dependent applications are considered, and both closed-form (explicit) and iterative (implicit) methods of solution are described.
