An investigation has been made of the selective solvent extraction of beryllium from sulfate liquors by means of esters of orthophosphoric acid. The sulfate liquors were obtained from the treatment of beryl flotation concentrates. The preferred extractant is di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid dissolved in kerosene. Tests with this solvent have provided design data for the forward- extraction and solvent-stripping processes. Tests with actual leach liquors showed that high-grade products were obtained by the procedures described.
