Neutron penetration in water and through iron-water shields of practical interest obtained from P₃ multigroup calculations employing P0-P3 scattering components has been reasonably reproduced by P₃ 11-group (10 nonthermal) calculations limited to P₀ and P1 scattering components to which an extended transport approximation incorporating empirically determined cross-section adjustment factors is applied.
