Materials capable of trapping alkali metal vapors at temperatures up to 800°C were tested and a number of surface-active mterials proved efficient. A sufficient quantity of Molecular Sieves, activated alumina or activated carbon can be contained in a crucible cover to trap and hold the evolved alkali metal vapors from an EBR-II melt refining furnace charge of 10 kg. The cover design is under development.
