Many advantages can be realized by operating a pressurized water reactor at steady-state local boiling conditions. However, before this mode of operation can be factored into the thermal and hydraulics of reactor design, its effect on cladding corrosion and surface crud deposition must be established. This paper describes the evaluation of a local boiling test at pH. 7, for crud deposition and corrosion.
