The basic principles of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) are described. At the Jülich external neutron laboratory ELLA, the FRJ-2 research reactor delivers a pure beam of “cold” neutrons. It is discussed here in connection with the possible use of cold neutrons for experimental BNCT of melanoma of the skin.
