Hauser-Feshbach calculations of the cross sections for producing selected excited states of ²⁷Al, ⁵⁶Fe, and ⁹⁰Zr are compared with experiment. It is found that, in addition to the usual width fluctuation correction factor, modified optical model transmission coefficients are necessary. A simple approximate formula, due to Feshbach, for the modified transmission coefficient is found to give good overall agreement with experiment.
