Electron-photon cascade calculations have been carried out for zero-width beams of 1-GeV electrons normally incident on semi-infinite slabs of water and aluminum. The energy deposited as a function of depth and radius is presented and compared with experimental measurements. The overall agreement between the calculated and experimental results is quite good and is adequate for most shielding purposes.
