The ¹⁹⁷Au(n,γ) cross section was measured as a function of neutron energy by time of flight. The data agree well with recent results averaged over limited energy regions but fall slightly below the ENDF/B-V evaluation at most energies. The most prominent structure seen is attributed to competition cusps of several percent amplitude just above the thresholds for inelastic neutron scattering to 5/2⁺ levels in ¹⁹⁷Au.
