Separate effects tests of the response of a reactor to a moving neutron absorber were performed using a vibrator system located in the central graphite region of a coupled core teaching/research reactor. The response of neutron detectors as a function of separation distance from the vibrating source confirms the general characteristics predicted by a two-dimensional, two-neutron energy group model developed for the reactor.
