A Handy Method for Approximate Optimization of Splitting in Monte Carlo

Based on a simplified transport model, very simple and practical expressions are derived for approximately optimum regionwise importances in a Monte Carlo game with geometrical splitting. Minimum region dimensions where splitting is still efficient are also derived. The proposed expressions show good agreement with results from more advanced theories. Results of realistic Monte Carlo calculations back up the theoretical considerations.
