Studies are presented of a subcritical reactor, driven by a tokamak fusion neutron source, for transmutation of actinides and fission products in spent nuclear fuel. Required characteristics of the neutron source are found to be consistent with the existing physics and technology data bases. The Pb-Bi cooled, metal fuel transmutation reactor is an adaptation of the design being developed for the ATW.
