The paper presents the results of a computer simulation made to study the behaviour of a prototype joint between the superconducting cables of the ITER machine. The joint analysed is the US-ITER preprototype, made and tested at the MIT, Plasma Science and Fusion Center, in 1996. The numerical models developed permit an analysis of the current distribution inside the joint and the evaluation of the resistive power dissipated, together with the stored magnetic energy. The model accuracy has been checked through a comparison between the measured and the computed magnetic field values.
