Some Considerations on Li2O Pebble-Type Breeding Blanket Design for Tokamak Fusion Reactors

Applicability of Li2O pebble type breeder has been investigated. Current experimental and analytical studies reveal that problems of thermal stress cracking and vaporization mass transfer can be resolved. Design feasibility studies of Li2O pebble type blanket have been performed for the FER and a power reactor. Results show that Li2O pebble breeder makes it possible to design blankets with high breeding ratio and high breeder integrity which can satisfy design requirements with some allowance for uncertainties or variations of parameters.
