Recent fusion electric and fusion breeder reactor design studies would utilize beryllium as a neutron multiplier. In this paper, this proposed usage is considered in the context of domestic and worldwide beryllium resources. Beryllium usage and resources are assessed, requirements for fusion-electric and fusion breeder designs are compiled, and estimates of the fusion economy which can be supported by the identified berylliym resource are developed. The results indicate that a substantial fusion economy can be supported by projected resources. However, efficient utilization and beryllium recycle will be required.
