The importance of D-3He reactor development in the attainment of attractive fusion energy is discussed. In addition to D-3He plasma physics and confinement issues, the use of low-activation wall materials and commercial production of 3He are vital issues for the successful achievement of a D-3He energy economy. These issues are discussed, and D-3He reactor features contrasted to deuterium-tritium and fission reactors.
