The behavior of a rapidly expanding plasma in the cavity of a D-3He inertial confinement fusion reactor has been analyzed. A magnetic field is applied in the cavity for deceleration and deflection of the plasma ions. A hybrid particle simulation shows that the Rayleigh-Taylor instability that develops has such a slow growth rate that the cavity wall will not be damaged.
