The Hydrogen Isotope Separation System (HISS) has successfully recovered and enriched tritium from isotopic mixtures in a production environment for over three years. During this time the emphasis has shifted from the demonstration of the functional capabilities of HISS to the operating and maintenance requirements necessary to maintain production. This paper reviews the HISS production experience and evaluates the design of HISS, as well as the operating methods during this time.
