An internal inductor in a single-turn ignition tokamak is considered. The electromechanical loads on the poloidal field coils and the associated stresses are evaluated in the IGNITEX device. Stress reduction due to the presence of structural eddy currents is demonstrated and its importance for design and operation of a fusion ignition experiment is discussed.
