Solid Breeder Blanket / dx.doi.org/10.13182/FST86-A24965

A new pin-type solid breeder blanket for tokamak reactors has been developed. Detailed engineering analyses have been performed and include configuration, neutronics, structural analysis, tritium transport, materials issues and thermal hydraulics. Steady-state and transient thermal problems have been addressed and are reported here. Particular attention is given to the issues of start-up, shutdown and fractional power operation. This study complements a previous report which examined the start-up, shutdown and fractional power operation of a liquid metal cooled tandem mirror reactor blanket1.
