JAERI started a program of Demonstration Poloidal Coils (DPC) for superconducting pulse poloidal coils. In this program, two NbTi pulse coils, DPC-1 and DPC-2, and a Nb3Sn pulse coil, DPC-EX are being developed. These coils have the same diameter of 1.0 m and the charging condition is from zero to 7 T in 1 sec. Total stored energy of DPC-1 and DPC-2 will be 30 MJ. Regarding design requirements and conditions of DPC, design selections on the coil configuration, charging mode and insulation, cooling type, conductor, and so on were made as described in this paper.
