The next generation of fusion devices present a number of technical challenges. Not the least of these technical issues may be the required power consumption needed to establish the experimental conditions. The influence of 500 MW or larger power pulses extend beyond the local utility to the common (national) power grid. This paper describes the development of a generic power grid model for the purpose of finding the appropriate locations on the nation's map to accommodate the substantial pulse loads of the fusion projects.
