Conservation laws and solutions to ion equations of motion have been used to obtain estimates of the maximum ion beam power that can be injected into and trapped within z-discharge plasma channels. Consequences of the results of these calculations for ongoing designs of light ion driven inertial confinement fusion experiments and reactor concepts are discussed.
