The aims, the main characteristics and the organisation of the European Community Fusion Programme are outlined. The content of the physics programme, which includes work performed in the Associated Laboratories and at JET (Joint European Torus), is presented. The fusion technology programme and NET (Next European Tokamak) are also described. International cooperation between the Community fusion programme and other large fusion programmes is reviewed.
