The activation of 27 elements (Li, Be, B, C, N, O, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Sn, Hf, Ta, W, and Pb) was calculated for a 2-yr exposure at the STARFIRE first-wall position. Based on a reasonable extension of current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations for near-surface land disposal, restrictions on nitrogen, aluminum, nickel, copper, niobium, molybdenum, and lead concentrations in first-wall materials may be required.
