Talking Points for Presidential Consideration of S.1287
The legislation is a streamlined bill that achieves key objectives necessary to keep the much-delayed nuclear waste program moving forward. Further, S.1287 address all of the Administration's concerns. The legislation:
- directs EPA to set the radiation protection standard for repository, after consulting with other scientific bodies;
- protects the Nuclear Waste Fund by ensuring that it is used only for its intended purpose of managing used fuel; and
- adds extra safeguards for transportation of used nuclear fuel.
