ANS Updates Used Nuclear Fuel Position Statement
Position Statement 22 - Creation of an Independent Entity to Manage U.S. Used Nuclear Fuel was recently updated in support of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee discussion scheduled for August 4. A significant portion of the legislation concerns the question of what entity should manage high-level waste. The Public Policy Committee recognized the importance of having a renewed position on this issue prior to the August hearing given the political environment and highlights the urgent need for the government to fulfill its obligations in the area of used fuel management.
