ANS expresses concerns about section 402 to senate subcommittee
Urges strong policies to secure and protect radiological material from misuse
The American Nuclear Society today delivered a letter to the Senate Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development to express its views regarding Section 402 of the FY 2015 Senate Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill.
Among the concerns outlined in the letter from ANS President Michaele (Mikey) Brady Raap is that "Section 402 would require NRC to discard its established regulatory framework in favor of mandatory security standards established by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Global Threat Reducation Initiative (GTRI) for "High Risk Radiological Material."
