Presidential candidates state nuclear energy positions

Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill 2001 was passed.  The Conference Report was passed by the House and Senate and sent to the White House.  The ANS Washington Office submitted the attached report.
News recently has been released about the nuclear power positions of Presidential candidates George W. Bush and Al Gore:
  1. The Resources for the Future website (http://www.rff.org/) has an online article about the positions of Bush and Gore. According to RFF, "The two major-party candidates offer their views on a wide range of environmental policy topics in a question-and-answer session in the Fall 2000 issue of 'Resources,' RFF's quarterly publication. The current issue also includes details of a new proposal from RFF researchers to help contain the costs of complying with the Kyoto Protocol..." This article is a pdf file, at: http://www.rff.org/resources_archive/pdf_files/141_candidates.pdf. A press release about this article is at http://www.rff.org/news/releases/resources_fall2000.htm.

  2. A recent AP story also describes the positions of Bush and Gore relating to nuclear power: http://www.boston.com/dailynews/290/politics/Candidates_on_the_issues_NucleP.shtml.

  3. A news story says that Bush/Cheney favor the EPA standards rather than the NRC regulations for Yucca Mountain. It is at: http://www.lvrj.com/lvrj_home/2000/Oct-25-Wed-2000/news/14680806.html.
Incidentally, the parts of the Republican Party and Democratic Party platforms relating to nuclear power were mentioned on pp. 22, 52, and 67 of the September issue of "Nuclear News" magazine.
