Re: Person of the Century

Your choice of Albert Einstein as person of the century was brilliantly appropriate on many levels. By recognizing Einstein on one level as a surrogate for the contributions of science and technology and by recognizing his humanism and faults, you have found in one person the important balance that we seek. Beyond his recognition of the implications of his famous equation, E = mc2 , for the atomic bomb, one should also credit him for being able to recognize the peaceful uses of the atom for energy, medical diagnostics, therapy, and industrial and environmental applications.

You have given those of us who work in this profession, new hope that society will take a new look at what the atom has done for us and what it can surely do in the future.

Sincerely yours,

Andrew C. Kadak
