American Nuclear Society Names Interim Executive Director

Roger Tilbrook, long time American Nuclear Society member, will serve, starting May 23, 2011, as interim Executive Director, ANS President Joe F. Colvin announced today. "ANS is delighted that Roger has agreed to help us manage the Society while we undertake a comprehensive search for a permanent replacement. His distinguished career and abilities will be invaluable during this period," said Colvin.

Tilbrook brings more than 40 years of nuclear community experience; he had tenures at Westinghouse, where he was in the Advanced Energy Systems Division from 1968 until 1983 and at Argonne National Laboratory from 1984 before retiring in 1999. He received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with honors in 1962 from Queen Mary College, University of London, and did economics and management studies, as well as advanced engineering studies at the University of Manchester, and has been an active member in ANS since 1968, having served on a number of committees and sections.

"I'm very excited to be an integral part of the Society I love so much," Tilbrook said. "This period is one during which ANS will seek to maintain its forward progress and to define its future, and I hope that my contribution, with the assistance of the Executive Committee and Board, will help demonstrate the relevance of ANS, especially in the aftermath of the incident at Fukushima."

In closing, Colvin said, "We are very fortunate to have Roger join us, especially in view of his other professional activities. We know that Roger will do an exceptional job during this interim period and we're grateful for his contribution."
