ANS President James Lake named associate lab director

James Lake, American Nuclear Society president, has been named associate laboratory director of Nuclear and Energy Systems Engineering (NESE) at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental laboratory (INEEL). Lake became the ANS president in June 2000 and will serve as the leading spokesperson for the Society until June 2001.

Lake, who has worked at the INEEL since 1984, will replace Jerry Ethridge, who has been named general manager of Site Services and Infrastructure. Lake formerly served as Advanced Nuclear Energy director at INEEL.

Lake has been instrumental in establishing the INEEL as a leader for nuclear reactor technology within DOE. "Jim is eminently qualified to assume the reins of NESE," said Ethridge. "His successes associated with the INEEL being DOE's nuclear energy lead lab and with the 11,000-member American Nuclear Society, will serve him well in this position."

As associate laboratory director, Lake will be responsible for all of INEEL's R&D activities supporting DOE's Energy business line, including nuclear, renewable and fossil energy generation, and industrial, transportation and building energy utilization.
