American Nuclear Society applauds grand opening of the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History

The Museum Theater will be named in honor of the ANS. The ANS was established as an individual membership society in 1954 to promote the peaceful use and development of nuclear science and technology. Soon after then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his "Atoms for Peace" speech to the United Nations, nuclear science trailblazers came together to create ANS.
"The American Nuclear Society is proud to support the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History," said Jack Tuohy, ANS Executive Director. "The Museum plays an important role in revealing the ways in which our lives are made better as a result of the contributions of the brilliant and dedicated members of the ANS. The contributions of the pioneers of this technology are difficult for the lay person to envision fully, which is why this vehicle is so important."
"The Museum is a valiant attempt to capture the achievements of these men and women and will serve as an inspiration for future generations. Perhaps more than any other technology, nuclear science and engineering have the potential to improve dramatically the conditions for people throughout the world. Contributions will be felt in medicine, safe food technology, and clean and reliable production of electricity."
