Stimulus Bill update - Loan guarantees removed from bill
What happened?
As you all know, the House and Senate Conference Committee reached an agreement on a $789 billion economic stimulus package. Together with our affiliated groups, the Nuclear Advocacy Network mounted an unprecedented campaign to keep the $50 billion loan guarantee provision in the package. However, we have learned that the provision has been stripped from the stimulus bill.
Thank you to all the advocates that contacted their elected representatives on our NAN Hotline, we flooded the House and Senate with support for nuclear power. NAN members did an outstanding job mobilizing in support of this issue and we need to keep the momentum going!
What's next?
Get ready to hear from NAN more often as we gear up for legislative action on appropriations and regulatory issues in the coming months. Please engage your elected representatives by regularly calling, faxing, e-mailing them and attending any open forums and town hall meetings with them. NAN regularly sends out updates informing you of when your Member will be in hosting a public forum so be sure to watch your e-mail for NAN advocacy opportunities.
