Senate passes Stimulus Bill - Nuclear loan guarantees remain in Senate bill

The Senate today passed the Stimulus Bill by a vote of 61 to 37.

The Bennett Amendment, which includes the $50 billion increase to the loan guarantee program for power generation using clean technologies (including nuclear technology), remains in the Senate version of the Stimulus Bill. There is no loan guarantee language in the House version, which has already passed.

The bill now goes to the House-Senate Conference Committee for deliberations. The conferees from both houses should be named within the next 24 hours.

There will be anti-nuclear attempts to remove the loan guarantees in Conference Committee (see link to The Atlantic below). Please check here for updates, including the list of conferees, once it is available.
