The American Nuclear Society (ANS), a professional organization of scientists and engineers devoted to the applications of nuclear science and technology, announced today the appointment of its new Executive Director. Mr. Jack Tuohy was selected following an extensive and thorough executive search process.

"As an international organization dedicated to promoting the safe and beneficial uses of nuclear science, engineering, and technology in everyday life, the American Nuclear Society required a combination of vision, scientific expertise and management excellence in its director," said Bill Burchill, the Society's President. "Jack has just this combination. His wealth of experience in industry and education, track record of management success, and commitment to the advancement of nuclear science, engineering, and technology throughout the world will be valued assets in our efforts to communicate effectively with our membership, policymakers and the public."

Tuohy joins the American Nuclear Society with a 38-year background in corporate management, consulting, academia, and nuclear engineering. Most recently, he served as Director of Hitachi America, Limited, where he oversaw the introduction of Hitachi nuclear products and services into the U.S. market.

"I have always admired the Society's commitment to promote excellence in the study and application of nuclear science and engineering," said Tuohy. "The mission of the Society is particularly relevant today as the enormous benefits of this technology have become more evident as society seeks to address the needs of growing populations and emerging nations. It has been and will continue to be a privilege for me to work with our accomplished and dedicated membership in advancing our profession and helping to make the lives of others better through our efforts."

Tuohy was named Executive Director following the retirement of Harry Bradley, who served as ANS Executive Director for nearly 11 years. Bradley will continue to serve in an advisory role with ANS.
