New ANS officers and Board members begin terms of office
At that same meeting, Dr. Gail H. Marcus took office as vice president/president-elect and five new board members took their seats on the 24 member board.
James A. Lake - ANS President
James Lake is director of Strategic Nuclear Business Development at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) where he has worked in nuclear energy research and development management since 1984. An ANS member since 1967, Lake was elected an ANS Fellow by his peers in 1992. He most recently held the position of ANS vice-president/president-elect. He has also served as chair of the Reactor Physics Division and Idaho local section. His term as ANS president runs until June 2001.
Gail H. Marcus - ANS Vice President/President-Elect
Gail Marcus is principal deputy director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology. She is an ANS Fellow, has chaired many ANS committees and a professional division, and has served on the Board of Directors. She will serve as vice-president/president-elect until June 2001, when she will become ANS president for a one-year term.
New Board Members
The five new members of the ANS Board of Directors who began their three-year terms at the June meeting are:

- Jorge Spitalnick, Deputy Manager, Nuclear Safety and Technology, ELETRONUCLEAR, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Dr. Ruth Weiner, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM; Adjunct Professor Civil Engineering, University of New Mexico
