Nuclear future endorsed in two ANS position statements
Position Statement 60: "Nuclear Energy for Hydrogen Generation" demonstrates the value of nuclear power plants in the production of hydrogen. ANS believes that the expected implementation of the hydrogen-based economy will permit a more sustainable energy system independent of fossil fuel resources.
Position Statement 61: "Nuclear Engineering Licensure" provides the ANS endorsement of exams designed to license engineering professionals in their applicable disciplines. The ANS asserts that such professional licensing recognizes competency and enhances the stature of the nuclear engineering profession. "Licensure demonstrates an engineer's commitment to excellence in the profession," explains Herb Fontecilla, chair of the ANS Public Policy Committee.
ANS position statements represent the stance of the Society's membership on issues of interest to the general public and policy makers. Nuclear professionals develop the positions based on related technical papers and ANS professional divisions. The complete position statements are found at http://www.ans.org/pi/ps/.
